Bartley’s Critique of Reason

September 3rd, 2007 · No Comments ·

I found an essay on the web by Rafe Champion about Bartley’s stance on rationality, which is an advancement of Popper’s philosophy. The most important thing is the move away from justification. Western Philosophy has been too much concerned with the question of how rationality can be justified – this is the piggy-back for irrationalism. Bartley’s approach could be seen as a form of dogmatism; in my view I would prefer to see it as acceptance of reality – some things just are; it is as little use to try to justify reality as it would be to justify gravity.
