Last Friday I decided I need to give my site a new theme – doing that in Wordpress usually takes one minute – copying the theme to your webhost directory and activating it. I hadn’t planned to do more.

What followed was one week consisting of a flurry of work (and it’s my week off actually *duh*), finally finished today. I upgraded the installation, checked new plugins, redid the header art, tweaked here and there; I changed work procedures in the backend, scrapped my old “main” site (which I didn’t like anymore) and transferred all the content there to this blog.

I would like to apologize to the subscribers of my feed: you probably got some recent posts doubly, because I had to reburn my feed because of an URL change (subdomain “dao” still exists but the site now runs under “www”). All this was not anticipated, otherwise I would have given notice beforehand.

I have also added a comments feed now which should make it more easy to follow discussions.

I have quite some posts planned for the future (they are already drafted) but I do not promise any publishing frequency. Stay tuned!

Four Principles of Interpersonal Communication
Osmo Wiio gives us some communication maxims similar to Murphy’s law (Osmo Wiio, Wiio’s Laws–and Some Others (Espoo, Finland: Welin-Goos, 1978):

* If communication can fail, it will.
* If a message can be understood in different ways, it will be understood in just that way which does the most harm.
* There is always somebody who knows better than you what you meant by your message.
* The more communication there is, the more difficult it is for communication to succeed.

These tongue-in-cheek maxims are not real principles; they simply humorously remind us of the difficulty of accurate communication. (See also A commentary of Wiio’s laws by Jukka Korpela.)

I’m not sure if I’m doing the right thing in splitting my site between a normal CMS (::wikipedia(“Content Management System”)::) and a blog, but it’s not unheard of on the web (meaning: quite common ).

The advantage is full wordpress Blog functionality (with trackbacks and pingbacks), and no hassle with integrating a blog component in Joomla – which is still a somewhat weak point of this otherwise extraordinary CMS.

On the other hand, I have two places to store my thoughts, which is not actually what you should do, according to modern data management strategies. But, as the about page explicates, one thing is very good about this approach: I can write down my thoughts rather loosely as they come in this blog, and, as they get structure through rethinking and revision of writing, I’ll transfer them to the CMS. Which will then bristle with bullet-proof theories
